If you fancy a pre-Christmas cast then the Bass Rock Shore Angling League are hosting a round in their popular winter league on Tuesday, December 23.
The venue is the North Berwick Harbour area and it is round eight of the event.
The match is a measure and release format, just get somebody close enough to mark your card.
Registration is at North Berwick Harbour from 6pm to 6.30pm and fishing is from 7pm to 10pm.
The mimimum size is 18cm and the entry is £10 with prizes for the longest single fish and the longest measure.
The weather forecast for Tuesday night is a high of 8c with a wind chill to 5c with a 20 per cent chance of rain around 8pm then clearing until lines in. The wind is scheduled to be around 16kmh. High tide is at 16.29 with low tide at 22.27.
For the record, Craig Ogilvie (North Berwick) leads the race for the winter league title with 42 points with Graham Meadows (St Boswells) second on 28 points with David Turnball (Haddington) third five points adrift.
Niko Millar (North Berwick) is fourth on 22 points with club secretary, James Ogilvie, tired with Jimmy Greenm (Musselburgh) on 17 points. They are fifth equal.
Elsewhere, James Roberts is organising The Fife Shore Showdown – Winter Smash 2026 on Saturday, January 3 with boundaries from Dysart to Elie.
Registration is at noon at Buckhaven Beach Car Park and lines in is at 1pm and lines out 6pm. The weigh-in is back at Buckhaven at 6pm sharp.
Entry is £20 for adults and £10 for kids and there are cash prizes. Two hooks maximum by the way and under-16 anglers must be supervised by an adult.

Elsewhere, organiser Allan Saunders reports that Forfar-based Ian Hardy won the Big Arbroath X-mas Bash with a heaviest cod of 4.1kg, taking home £305. He also won the heaviest bag prize of 12.4kg and won £250.
Second in the heaviest bag section was Jock Robert with 3.65kg for £150 and third Alan Combe (Kirkcaldy) with 3.6kg and he won £100. Forth was Keith Bathgate with 2.95kg and he took home £60.
A total of 61 enterted and the junior winner was William Sturrock, with Trubo Varny second and Blaire White third in the six hour match from 15.00 to 21.00 fished partly in darkness with high tide at 14.18 and low tide at 20.30.
