Jamie McHale was crowned the Scottish Shore Cod Champion after battling against heavy seas on the Angus coast near Arbroath to pip 57 other anglers.
The gamekeeper from Gifford, East Lothian, hooked into a 6lb 7oz cod during the six-hour match with boundaries between Carnoustie and Ferryden. Second was Gareth Black (Dumfries) with a fish of 4lb 2oz.
Karl Wheatley (Dumfries) won the heaviest bag award with 9lb 2oz with Ian Crombie (Dysart) second on 6lb 11oz, only four ounces ahead of McHale with his big fish.
Elsewhere, George Harris won the winter league hosted by Kirkcaldy-based St Serfs Sea Angling Club, well ahead of the second-placed angler.
The Dunshalt-based angler totalled 100 points with David Smart (Ballingry) second on 74 points and David Erskine (Kirkcaldy) in third position only six points adrift.
Colin Hay (Dysart) came fourth with 48 points and Frank McFarlane (Wemyss) was fifth with 45 points.
The final leg of the series was fished on the Angus coast at the weekend in wild seas, although the weather was not cold or particularly windy.
The water was probably the worst the club have fished in for a long time and only five brave souls ventured out.
They managed to find a couple of sheltered spots to fish and not a lot of fish caught.
Harris said that might be down to the fish having stuffed themselves over the recent storm.
He managed to hook into two fish for 3lb 7oz with Michael Abrahams landing one of 1lb 14oz for second spot.
The club’s next match is the winter trophy on Sunday, February 15 on the Fife coast and more details will be given nearer the time.
