Hearts’ new head coach, Wouter Vrancken, had another chance to view his squad in their 2-1 victory over Arbroath in a Testimonial match at Gayfield.
The visitors, who fielded a strong line-up, moved 2-0 ahead before Arbroath pulled one back.
It was Landry Kabore who broke the deadlock after 28 minutes with a headed goal from a cross by Calvin Miller and the scoreline stayed the same until the break.
Alexandros Kyziridis made it 2-0 in 65 minutes from a pass by substitute Sabah Kerjota, finding the bottom corner from the middle of the penalty box.
Andy Winter netted a consolation for the home side, nipping in behind the Hearts defence to beat the advancing Alexander Schwolow.
Now, the squad must prepare for a stern test against Spanish side, Rayo Vallecano, at Tynecastle on Friday (19.45).
Off the pitch, the Jambos have recruited Liam Ross as their new set plays coach. He arrives on July 20 from Southampton where he was an individual development coach.
