First-half goals from Tyrese Sinclair and Robbie Muirhead secured a victory for Livingston over Brechin City as they opened their Premier Sports Cup campaign in Group E at Glebe Park with a comfortable 2-0 win.
Robbie Muirhead was involved in the opening goal against the Lowland League side and it took only just three minutes to arrive. Stevie May fed Muirhead who set-up Sinclair. He cut inside and found the bottom right-hand corner.
Livingston dominated play but were unable to turn possession into another goal but they broke through again after 30 minutes with Muirhead netting.
The ball was played to Muirhead who beat home goalkeeper, Kyle Gourley . His shot was almost blocked on the line by the home defence, but the strike was too powerful.
Scott Pittman then cracked the crossbar with a first-time shot before neat pay between Cammy Palmer and Sinclair found Cammy Kerr but his shot flew wide.
The Lions failed to add to their total before half-time but Kerr had an effort saved and then Sinclair came cose.
The well-organised Livingston defence kept Brechin in check but Brechin made it difficult for Livi to break down and head coach, Glenn Whelan rang the changes.
Muirhead remained on the pitch and fired a fierce effort from 35 yards before Brechin veteran Dale Hilson found Ross Milne but the substitute dragged his shot wide.
At the other end, A cross from substitute Jordan Doherty found the head of Palmer but the ball dropped wide.
The Lions motored home with three points but they now face Partick Thistle on Saturday in the same competition at Almondvale on Saturday.
The Jags comfortably disposed of Forfar Athletic on Tuesday and have now scored ten goals in their first two League Cup group games.
