Volunteers will be handing out more than 1,000 leaflets outside Waverley Station in Edinburgh hoping to raise awareness of Long Covid and ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). This leaflet drop will mark Long Covid Awareness Day and the fifth anniversary of the global pandemic.
The campaign, organized by Not Recovered UK, aims to spotlight the urgent need for greater investment in biomedical research into both illnesses, which continue to affect millions of people worldwide. The leaflets, featuring personal stories, photos, and the names of Long Covid sufferers, will serve as a reminder of the real human impact of these conditions.
The leaflets will be handed out at Waverley from 11am, encouraging passersby to learn more about the devastating effects of Long Covid and ME/CFS and to join the call for government action. This event is part of Not Recovered UK’s ongoing national campaign, which has included placing billboards in cities across the UK to demand that governments prioritize urgent research and healthcare support for those suffering from these chronic conditions.
“Long Covid and ME/CFS have left millions of people struggling to regain their health, yet these illnesses remain underfunded and under-researched,” said a spokesperson for Not Recovered UK. “We are using Long Covid Awareness Day to send a clear message to policymakers: it’s time to invest in the research and care that these individuals desperately need.”
The campaign encourages the public to come together in solidarity with those affected by these debilitating illnesses, which continue to disrupt lives long after the initial infection or onset. Volunteers will be distributing the leaflets throughout the city centre, offering an opportunity for people to learn more about the challenges faced by those living with Long Covid and ME/CFS.
