Edinburgh School Uniform Bank
The Edinburgh School Uniform Bank (ESUB) is being helped with a grant from the OneCity Trust – the Lord Provost’s social inclusion charity. Funding also comes from Travis Perkins and the City of Edinburgh Council Community Legacy Fund and is distributed through the charity.
ESUB helps children at all stages of their school journey by making sure they have clothes and bags to attend school with. WE visited last year when the Lord Provost saw for himself the difference the funding makes.
Edinburgh Diwali
This will take place on 3 November. It is a parade from St Andrew Square to Princes Street via Castle Street – and it is led by the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland as well as other bands which take part, Indian dancers and local groups.
It is a very colourful way of celebrating the Indian festival of lights – and ends with a firework display from the gardens.
Leith Connections
This is one of the more successful Low Traffic Neighbourhoods in the city. This week the council is writing to all residents in Leith to give them an update. Here it is in case you have missed yours or live elsewhere.
Panto antics
The stars of the Capital Theatres pantomime gathered at the Festival Theatre on Tuesday evening to announce the full cast for Cinderella which begins on 23 November and runs until 31 December.
Allan Stewart, Grant Stott and Jordan Young head up the cast which promises to have audiences rolling in the aisles at their antics. Mum was the word – except that Stewart let slip that there will be real ponies pulling the coach…(and he told The Edinburgh Reporter that the wig is very uncomfortable for the first few times before he gets used to it.
