Dundas Parks Golf Club held their nerve to roar back from 5-1 down after the first leg to edge Dalmeny Estate Golf Club in an annual two-leg match for the coveted Eisenhower Quaich.
One win and a half would have been enough for the Dalmeny team to celebrate victory, but it was not to be on the Dundas course which was in excellent condition.
A stiff wind made it tough for both teams and, as the match progressed, it was clear that the aggregate score was going to be close. So it proved, the result going down to the final match and Ian Bell and Kevin Ferguson could only half which meant that Dundas won 6.5 to 5.5.
Willie Ruffle, secretary of the Dalmeny club, said: “Well done to Dundas on their amazing comeback. Undoubtedly, home advantage helped both teams but that solitary point made all the difference.”
RESULTS: Willie Ruffle and Ian Souza lost to Jim Cowper and Tom Milne 2&1; J Cottle and C Redmond lost 3&2 to Neil Kennedy and Peter Jeffrey; Andy Allan and J McVey lost 3& 1 to David Watson and Billy Mitchell; Ernie Hinks and A Gibson lost 4&3 to Peter Quigley and Gary Hoskins; Mark Cottle and E McVey lost 4&3 to Lindsay Munro and Alistair Lawson; Ian Bell and Kevin Ferguson halved with Doug Tait and David Cameron.
