Today is the 80th anniversary of D-Day
Today the armed forces are remembering the D-Day landings of the Allied forces during the Second World War.
There will be a concert this evening at the Usher Hall entitled Scotland’s Salute. The event features music from a range of military bands, including musicians from His Majesty’s Royal Marines Band Scotland, from across the Royal Regiment of Scotland, the Pipes and Drums of the Royal British Legion Scotland [Legion Scotland], and will feature civilian musical performances from the Military Wives Choirs and the Scottish singer Amy Hawthorn.
Tickets are available for Scotland’s Salute via the Usher Hall’s ticket site (Scotlands Salute – A Tribute to D-Day 80th Anniversary Concert | Usher Hall) and at the venue’s in person box office.
Edinburgh Bus Users Group AGM
Get along this evening to St Augustine United Church, George IV Bridge, to hear what the big bus issues in the city are and listen to Professor David Begg, a former Transport Convener in Edinburgh, explain why the city needs 7am to 7 pm bus lanes every day of the week. He introduced Greenways in the 1990s, cutting journey times.
The transport expert told The Scotsman that the growth in delivery vans has made traffic problems in the city worse, and said that these vans are posing the biggest problem for bus journey times.

Connecting Granton Waterfront Consultation
This consultation is open now and will run until 16 July. It aims to provide better transport connections and access to the promenade, parks, local shops, schools, services and public transport at the Granton Waterfront.
The proposal is to have a network of safe and well-connected routes as part of an active travel network for Granton. There are wider pavements planned with placemaking projects and improved landscaping.
With 3,500 homes being built in the area as well as a new health centre and primary school, there are also retail and leisure opportunities, cultural facilities and business space, there is a need for green space and good transport links of all kinds.
