Edinburgh Trams is extremely busy this weekend transporting Swifties to and from Scottish Gas Murrayfield, but it is one year since trams began running from the city centre to Newhaven.

The number of people using the tram has more than doubled, with more than seven million trips recorded just in the first six months.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, said: “We’re delighted to see the Trams to Newhaven Project has already proved its worth, unlocking a wealth of opportunities for communities along the new route.

“Thanks to the hard work and commitment of the entire team here at Edinburgh Trams, and our partners the line has delivered a real boost to Edinburgh’s plan to become a net-zero city.

“More than ever. The expanded network delivers a world-class, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective service for millions living, working or visiting the city.”

Gordon Millar, Theatre Director at Edinburgh Playhouse, said: “The tram route extension has been a wonderful and welcome addition for our audiences travelling from across the city to see our shows. The Picardy Place stop being directly opposite the theatre has meant that making your way to your favourite musicals, comedy, gigs and more has never been easier.”
