The Edinburgh Green Party has announced that they have chosen their candidates for the various constituencies in and around Edinburgh at the next General Election whenever that is called.
The candidates are:
- James Puchowski – Edinburgh West
- Jo Phillips – Edinburgh South
- Dan Heap – Edinburgh South West
- Kayleigh O’Neill – Edinburgh North and Leith
- Simon Jay – Bathgate and Linlithgow
- Amanda Grimm – Edinburgh East and Musselburgh
- Cameron Glasgow – Livingston
Edinburgh Greens co-convenor Anne Scott said: “There is only one party in Scotland that is committed to meaningful action on the climate and nature crises while tackling the social injustices faced by people across the UK.
“While the Scottish Green Party has grown, it remains uniquely placed to achieve these goals as a member-driven movement that prioritises the public good.”
“Each of our candidates will give voters a voice to call for an end to the cronyism and corruption rife at Westminster.
“A different type of politics is possible, one where we leave fossil fuels in the ground, put the earth’s life-support systems first, invest in communities and green industries, and celebrate our diversity as human beings.
“As the general election approaches, Edinburgh Greens are urging people to vote for their values – to send a message to the Westminster political establishment that people want change and are willing to vote for it. How else will we ever bring about the change we so desperately need?”
It is for the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak to call the next General Election, and he must do so no later than 28 January 2025, although he is on record as having said it will be in the second half of this year. Parliament must be dissolved ahead of any election no later than 17 December 2024.
At present the parliament is made up of a majority of Conservative MPs, although earlier on Monday Lee Anderson the former Conservative Party Vice-Chairman who was already under suspension, has announced his defection to the Reform UK party led by Richard Tice. Mr Anderson was previously a Labour councillor. He was suspended by the Conservative Party after failing to apologise for remarks made about the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, accusing him of being controlled by Islamists.
