Citadel Youth Centre

The funding at the Citadel Youth Centre has been slashed from £175,000 to just £50,000 without a stepping stone of any kind. Willy Barr who runs the centre is adamant that the council must find one-off funding to help the Centre transition. Mr Barr is making a deputation to the council’s Education committee today.

Edinburgh Airport Community Fund

Edinburgh Airport will make £300,000 available to community groups, social enterprises, and charities this year through its Community Fund, more than doubling the amount awarded last year.

Groups are invited to apply for funding through the airport’s website and the first round of awards will be allocated during a meeting of the Community Fund board in April. Further meetings are then scheduled for August and November.

The Community Fund allows the airport to support projects within the community, improving services and opportunities for local people, and last year the airport shared £140,000 between 48 different groups operating in Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife and Falkirk.

These included:

  • £4,000 for Edinburgh Kayak Club to purchase new children’s sports equipment.
  • More than £5,500 for replacement heaters at Blackness Community Hall.
  • £4,900 for Newtongrange Community Garden to purchase equipment for an organic garden.
  • Cost of living payments to food and hygiene banks serving our communities.

Water of Leith Coalie Park

An update on a problem resolved.

Also a reminder that Coalie Park is closed – here are possible diversion routes.

“The aim of this project is to create a space people want and need. This involves ambitious placemaking, improving active travel, arts / interpretation installations and nature restoration work. The installation of new path surfaces, planters, benches, cycle parking have all been designed to improve movement though the site while also allowing for pauses to enjoy the greenspace. In time the carpark will almost disappear, cyclists will be encouraged onto Coburg street and Coalie Park will become a space to relax and enjoy instead of being rushed past. Unfortunately, all this work has meant the closure of the site to walkers and cyclists until the spring, but there is a diversion in place.”

Burns Night

We are being told each day of some new way to celebrate Rabbie Burns. We have chosen to avoid the chocolate haggis so far but any events that we hear about will be published here in our Food and Drink section.

If you are celebrating the Bard then do get in touch with any details.

Bonnie & Wild are putting on a ceilidh and food from their many outlets – including a haggis burger..from El Perro Negro
