Edinburgh Airport is to make £300,000 available to community groups, social enterprises, and charities this year through its Community Fund, more than doubling the amount awarded last year.
Groups are invited to apply for funding through the airport’s website. The first round of awards will be allocated during a meeting of the Community Fund board in April, and further meetings are then scheduled for August and November.
Through its Community Fund airport supports community projects, improving services and opportunities for local people. Last year the airport shared £140,000 between 48 different groups operating in Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife and Falkirk which included £4,000 for Edinburgh Kayak Club to purchase new children’s sports equipment, more than £5,500 for replacement heaters at Blackness Community Hall, £4,900 for Newtongrange Community Garden to purchase equipment for an organic garden and cost of living payments to food and hygiene banks serving our communities.
Priority is given to any applicants who fall into their four strategies of “Enhancing Scotland, Zero Carbon, Scotland’s Best Business and Trusted Neighbour”.
Gordon Robertson, Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer at Edinburgh Airport said: “By more than doubling the sum available through our Community Fund we’re able to provide even more support to even more groups in 2024.
“Through our Greater Good strategy we’re committed to sharing the benefits of the airport with the communities closest to us and we’ve seen the impact awards from our Community Fund can have on a wide range of groups – supporting great work already going on in our communities.
“I’d encourage anyone who thinks their group could benefit from our Community Fund to submit an application.”
Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP, Chair of the Community Fund, said: “Edinburgh Airport’s Community Fund has been a fantastic source of support to local organisations for many years, and having seen the difference the funding can make I’d always encourage anyone interested to put their group forward.
“The increased pot for 2024 means there’s even more opportunity to benefit from this funding, and even more opportunity for the Fund to help groups it has not been able to reach before.”
