• Name – David Henry
  • Political Party – Alba
  • Ward – Sighthil/Gorgie

What is your story?

I started out in retail sales of home entertainment equipment in the 198’s. I then set up my first business selling Laserdiscs and went on to licensing and releasing feature films on Laserdisc including a little film called Dirty Dancing which was followed by Stand By Me and Robocop 3 amongst others.

More recently I ran a local pub in my ward The Village Inn where I was able to informal help many customers with issues and direct them to either their MP, MSP or Councillor.
I joined the SNP in 2014 and campaigned in all the elections for them until last year. I was elected as the local SNP branch secretary for seven years and became the organiser for the SNP Pentlands Constituency Association. This gave me a real insight into how the council operates and I have built a network of contact with current councillors. I would expect  when elected to build support for improving facilities in my ward.

What are the main issues you will campaign on?

I feel very strongly that all children must be supported to help them fulfil their potential. It’s why the Alba policy of free school meals is a must. The cost of living crisis was not inevitable and we need to have people with real life experience to represent us who bring real life experience and can see the full picture. I think many of the failings in public services are due to the fact that each service is run in isolation. There seems to be no coordination and I will bring a fresh approach to some of these failings.

What do you consider to be your or your party’s achievements or legacy during the last council session?

As Alba wasn’t around at the last council election we are the only party that hasn’t made things worse.

What is the thing that few people would know about you?

I fought a legal case against Rupert Murdoch’s BSkyB in London some 12 yrs ago and won. I don’t take no for an answer and always believe that things can be made better.
