Corstorphine community officers joined forces with the Police Scotland’s Road Policing unit to carry out checks yesterday on Saughton Road North.

Officers spoke to eight drivers as part of ‘Operation Close Pass’  an initiative to ensure cyclists are safe on the roads.

The initiative is to promote the safe use of shared road space which involves a police officer cycling in plain clothes with cameras and will alert a colleague, further up the road, if they are passed too closely by a car. The motorist will then be pulled over to discuss their driving.

A further seven drivers were reported for speeding offences.

Officers have been patrolling local roads in the capital and cracking down on speeding drivers in recent weeks.

In a statement Edinburgh Police division said: “Corstorphine Community officers were out with colleagues from Road Policing yesterday on Saughton Road North.

“8 drivers were spoken to in relation to #ClosePass and 7 drivers were dealt with for speeding offences.”
