Tributes have been paid to an inspirational fundraiser who raised hundreds of pounds for charity while she had cancer.
Carol Hudson died at East Lothian Community Hospital with her husband Bill holding her hand. She was laid to rest in Binning Wood, near Tyninghame, with friends and family in attendance.
Carol, who had two sons, Kieran, 23, and Connor, 25, raised hundreds of pounds for Maggie’s Centres, despite being diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour, by taking part in fundraising Culture Crawls in Edinburgh.
When she took part in the sponsored event two years ago, she spoke of her drive to support Maggie’s, which had helped her when she was first diagnosed in 2014.
Members of the public are asked to continue that support and make donations in Carol’s memory to Maggie’s Edinburgh.
Husband Bill had to fight to be able to see Carol after she was transferred to the hospital weeks before lockdown began and spoke of his anguish as they faced months of separation.
In May, on Carol’s 56th birthday, musician Bill stood outside her hospital room window and played three songs to her.
And as restrictions eased, the hospital allowed some visits in its sanctuary room with social distancing.
Bill said he was able to be with his wife when she died, saying: “It was very peaceful, I was holding her hand.”
In a tribute to his wife, who he described as a”standard bearer for Maggie’s”, Bill described her as “a beautiful, brave, inspirational lady, mum, aunt, sister, wife, soul-mate, sorely missed by so many, from Kirkwall to Killybegs, New Zealand to Edinburgh.”
