Rangers’ manager Steven Gerrard was ‘frustrated’ after leaving Easter Road with a share of the points this afternoon but accepted that Hibs had played well.
Rangers went into the game having failed to concede a goal in their opening seven league games plus one European game this season however they fell behind to a Drey Wright strike midway through the first half.
Alfredo Morelos equalised then Scott Arfield gave Gerrard’s men the lead before Christian Doidge ensured the game finished all square with a powerful header from Martin Boyle’s cross.
Rangers who are desperate to stop Celtic winning their 10th title in a row played well and had the majority of possession but a tremendous double save from Ofir Marciano ensured the game ended in a draw.
At the other end former Hearts’ keeper Jon McLaughlin also produced two superb saves to deny Kevin Nisbet and Ryan Porteous.
Gerrard was also quick to praise the contribution of Boyle in Hibs’ goals.
After the final whistle Gerrard told Sky Sports: “We see it as two points dropped. We know it’s a difficult place to come and to be fair to Hibs they played well.
“I think going forward we created enough to win the game. We have had some real good chances. The keeper (Ofir Marciano) has made a fantastic save. Scotty (Arfield) has had a fantastic chance and we’ve had a free header in the six yard box so going forward I liked a lot about our play today but to concede two goals in the manner we did is extremely frustrating, especially after the praise of how well we have done in the previous games, so we go away slightly frustrated.
“I’m sure Jack (Ross) will be really pleased at the goal scorers and how their goals came about but from our point of view we need to defend better, especially the second one.
“The first one is a diagonal ball. We need to win the first header then we need to get to the man quicker and take him on to his weaker foot. The second goal, obviously is a poor header and again you need to be better with the first header. Connor (Goldson) needs to clear his lines and then when it comes to Tav (James Tavernier) we need to show Boylie (Martin Boyle) whom we know is a big threat onto his weak side but we don’t, we show him onto his strong side and he puts a fantastic cross in and gives Filip (Helander) no chance up against Doidge.”
