Hibs have completed the signing of Stephen McGinn on a contract that will run until the end of the season.
The versatile 31-year-old has been part of the group at the Hibernian Training Centre since the squad returned for pre-season training and his experience and leadership qualities will enhance a dressing room that has enjoyed a strong start to the new season.
Stephen kicked off his career in the youth ranks at St Mirren – where he played alongside Hibs’ Head Coach Jack Ross – before winning a move to Watford.
Following a three-year spell with The Hornets, the former Scotland Under-21 international enjoyed a two-year stint with Sheffield United ahead of stops at Dundee and Wycombe.
In 2017 he returned to The Buddies and is widely credited as being an inspirational figure in their unlikely escape from relegation to Scotland’s third tier, before going on to win the title in the following campaign.
He is already a familiar face at Easter Road, having regularly joined the rest of his family over the years to support brothers John and Paul and we look forward to Stephen following in their footsteps and making his own mark on the club.
Head Coach Jack Ross told Hibernian Media: “For me, Stephen adds a lot to the group and the environment at HTC.
“You can never have enough good professionals with leadership qualities and we’re fortunate, as I’ve said repeatedly, to have a great core of those at Hibernian.”
Stephen added: “It means a lot to me to have signed for Hibernian and it goes without saying that no-one needs to explain the size of the club to me.
“John and Paul have thrived here and it’s a privilege to get the chance to play my part as well.”
John graduated from Telford College in 2010 with an HNC in Practical Journalism and since then he worked for the North Edinburgh News, The Southern Reporter, the Irish News Review and The Edinburgh Reporter. In addition he has been published in the Edinburgh Evening News and the Hibernian FC Programme.
