Additional support for the unemployed and those at greatest risk of redundancy will be announced today.
Economy Secretary Fiona Hyslop will outline steps to maximise PACE services, the Scottish Government’s partnership support for those facing redundancy, as well as confirming at least £50 million for young people, including the Scottish Job Guarantee.
A Covid-19 Transition Training Fund to support retraining for those in sectors where there is the greatest risk of job losses will also be confirmed.
Further key actions to rebuild the economy following coronavirus (COVID-19) will be set out in the Scottish Government’s responses to the Advisory Group on Economic Recovery report and the Enterprise and Skills Strategic Board report, published today.
Ms Hyslop said: “COVID-19 has had a significant impact on our economy, but it also presents an opportunity to build back better. As our full response will demonstrate, we will rebuild our economy with wellbeing and fair work at its heart.
“The advice we have had is very clear on the need to support jobs, skills and training as we move through economic recovery, and targeted work to expand support for people who are unemployed or at greatest risk of redundancy is key in our move to recovery.
“That is particularly important for young people and for those in the hardest hit sectors of our economy. That’s why at the heart of our response we have at least £50 million for young people, including the Scottish Jobs Guarantee and a dedicated Transition Training Fund. We are clear that no one should be left behind as a result of COVID-19, and we will take every opportunity we can to create and protect jobs.
“This will only be possible in true partnership with the business community, trade unions, enterprise agencies and the third sector. It is only by working together that we will successfully rebuild.”
