A Lothian double decker number 24 bound for West Granton left the road this morning, mounted the pavement to its left hand side and crashed into the wall of number 7 South East Circus Place.

Nobody was injured in the crash which happened just after 7am.

The bus was turning left at the foot of Howe Street and it is presumed it skidded on the cobbles there. It has been raining most of the morning. There is a pedestrian island in the centre of the road but that was untouched.

The front door platt at number 5 has been completely demolished and the railings for a certain length have been removed along with some of the stonework they usually stand in.

The house itself is intact despite the paint on the front elevation showing that it was the point of impact. Both front facing windows are also undamaged.

When we reached the scene there were two fire appliances and three recovery trucks all manoeuvring the bus away from the house over the open courtyard below and back onto the street.

Some of the people living in the street had to be accompanied in and out of their homes by police under the guidance of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Incident Commander. But even the person living in the corner house in the basement had not heard any loud bangs this morning. There were lots of bemused residents looking on as the bus was being removed.
