Former Hibs’ Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom has been appointed as Sheffield United’s U23s lead coach.

The Yorkshireman was a surprise choice to replace Neil Lennon in February 2019 and started his tenure with a 2-0 win over Hamilton Academical at Easter Road.

In his first 11-games Hibs only lost once, against Celtic at Easter Road in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup.

His three Edinburgh derbies included one win, one draw and one defeat.

His final game in charge was a 5-2 defeat to Celtic at Hampden Park in the semi-final of the League Cup on 2 November 2019.

In total he took charge 32-times, winning 13, drawing 10 and losing nine.

Academy Manager Jack Lester remarked: “Paul is a fantastic coach and a great appointment for the club.

“He brings a wealth of experience to the Academy and we are delighted to have secured his services. We have some excellent prospects coming through in the next few years and it is vital we have top coaches, like Paul, and Derek Geary, who remains lead coach for the U18s, to develop them.”
