Swiss striker Florian Kamberi’s days at Hibs appear to be numbered although he is currently training with the squad ahead to the start of the league campaign on 1st August.
Head Coach Jack Ross said the that club and player are in constant dialogue to come to an agreement that suits both parties and refused to rule out a return for the 25-year-old who appeared to burn his bridges with supporters after describing his loan move to Ibrox as his ‘dream’.
Kamberi joined Rangers in the January transfer window with midfielder Greg Docherty moving to Easter Road on a similar deal. He made nine appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side, scoring one goal.
The former Grasshoppers striker who was signed by Neil Lennon still has 12 months left on his contract and a number of clubs including Hull City have been reported to be interested in acquiring his services.
He played 84 times for Hibs, scoring 30 goals.
Ross told Sky Sports: “He’s trained with us from day one, and that’s probably it.
“There’s continued dialogue to find a solution that suits both parties but at the moment, he’s training with the group.”
Asked if it was likely Kamberi had played his last game for the club Ross replied: “I don’t think I would ever be as blunt as that. From experience, football can move and shift in very different ways.
“At the moment, in terms of my planning for the season, I’m planning with the players who will absolutely be here and try to prepare as best I can for the opening game – especially as we start to move ever closer, hopefully, to friendly matches.”
In February, Ross branded Kamberi’s reaction to the Rangers switch as “unusual” and warned it would be “more challenging” for the forward to return to Hibs. Yesterday, he added: “I don’t necessarily think any challenges would be attributed to [Kamberi’s comments].
“You have to make sure you have a group that’s fully involved in what you’re trying to do at the club.
“If you don’t have that, then you have to find a solution that suits everybody, and that’s what we’re trying to work towards at the moment.”
