Capital Theatres are complying with Scottish Government guidance on cancelling mass gatherings of more than 500 people and have closed the doors of all their Edinburgh theatres today.

The Festival Theatre, the King’s Theatre and The Studio will remain closed throughout March and April as an initial measure.

Anyone who has tickets for performances in March and April will get a full refund. The box office staff will deal with customers directly over the next few weeks.

The Edinburgh Playhouse is part of the Ambassador Theatre Group and all of their venues are closed with immediate effect.

The Usher Hall is closed too. A City of Edinburgh Council spokesperson said: “The Usher Hall team is working hard behind the scenes with partners and promoters in response to the UK and Scottish Government guidance and are currently reviewing individual arrangements.

“We recommend anyone with tickets for upcoming events check the website on a regular basis. If you have an online account, please log in and make sure your contact details are correct, including a valid email address and telephone number.”
