Edinburgh-born Paul Young is among the VIP guests at the Spring Open Weekend staged by Glasgow Angling Centre (GAC) from March 6 to 8 at the company’s extensive warehouse at Unit 1, The Point Retail Park, 29 Saracen Street, Glasgow G22 5HT.

Young, the star of the popular TV series, Hooked on Fishing, is just one of a host of big names along with Hardy Fishing, MacKenzie and Abu Garcia.

Tackle firm representatives will be available for visitors to ask questions and to get help with your fishing.

Anglers can also try out a new rod in the casting pool, get free fly casting tuition from SGAIC instructors, and watch the UK’s top fly tiers, including Barry Ord Clarke of Veniard, up close and learn their techniques.

Some of the finest single and double-hand fly casters in the world will demonstrate their casting skills.

There will also be free workshops, including bait preparation, plus kids activities and there is free parking, onsite catering.

A GAC spokesman said: “The event is totally focused on today’s angler’s needs and promises to be a great weekend with loads to see and do. Expect to come away with new tips and advice that will help you become a better angler.”
