Hibs’ ‘starman’ Martin Boyle said yesterday’s 3-0 victory over Aberdeen was a ‘fantastic result’ but he insists that the team have to keep pushing up the table.
Boyle scored twice as Hibs recorded their biggest home league win over Aberdeen since 1957 and he insisted that the players had to put on a performance for the fans after losing a two goal lead to Kilmarnock last weekend and then suffering a 2-1 defeat to Ross County in Dingwall in midweek.
New Head Coach Jack Ross’s first objective when taking over from Paul Heckingbottom was to guide the team into the top six but now that has been achieved Boyle has higher ambitions.
Speaking after the final whistle Boyle told Hibs TV: “It was a fantastic result for us. We need to keep pushing up the table.
“We grinded it out today. They are a strong outfit and their position in the table doesn’t lie for them.
“They came here but we scored some good goals and the crowd came out in their numbers.
“It was all about the team. The performance was the most important thing. We had to get Wednesday out of the back of our mind and we knew we had to put on a big performance today and we did.
“Like I say they are a good side but we stuck to the game plan and grinded the first half out which gave us a good platform to go on and win the game.
When asked about the sensational pass from Scott Allan which led to the first goal, he joked: “It was a good pass (from Scott Allan) but it was all about the run. We know what he is capable of and if I can make the runs he can find them and today thankfully I was there to put the ball in the back of the net.”
