Hibs’ Head Coach Jack Ross was delighted with his players after yesterday’s superb victory over Motherwell at Easter Road.

Hibs fought back from a goal down to take a half time lead thanks to goals from Christian Doidge and Florian Kamberi then with Motherwell pressing, substitute Daryl Horgan wrapped things up in the dying minutes.

Both teams played fast attractive football with play raging from end to end but the three points deservedly remained in Leith.

Paul Hanlon played his 400th game for the club and he marshalled the defence well whilst Scott Allan was majestic in midfield and if he keeps up this form it can only be a matter of time before Steve Clarke notices.

Melker Hallberg also showed his outstanding potential in the ‘Marvin Bartley’ role whilst up front Kamberi and Doidge linked up well and both deserved to get their names on the scoresheet.

After the game Ross said:  “I’ve had different experiences as a manager coming in pre-sons and coming in mid-season and when you do come in mid-season it does help to get off to a good start.

“It helps to get that buy-in from the players. I’m pleased for the players because there parts of the performance which were very good.”

“I’m still trying to get a feel for the players, but we got little bits of information across and the players took that on board very well.

“It was hard work for them to play the way we wanted and be as brave as we wanted in forward areas, so I’m delighted.

“The first starting point for us this season was to get into the top six and this win takes us there immediately, but we need to build from that.

“However, there are some very good players here, I’m not coming into a group that doesn’t have ability, they have lots of that and it’s a good squad in terms of their willingness to listen and learn.

“I’m really encouraged by that and excited. We have a lot of creativity and potential in that team who can score goals.”

Jack conceded his side were lucky not to give away a penalty after Ryan Porteous’ appeared to bring down Liam Polworth just inside the area.

He added: “From the far side I couldn’t see where it was on the pitch but I expected the whistle to go for it.

“I said that to Stephen Robinson at the time, but it didn’t, and sometimes you need those breaks.”
