We noticed on social media over the weekend that Ella Taylor-Smith had taken some photos of plastic flowers in West Princes Street Gardens on Saturday afternoon.
She had spotted the arrays of flowers just east of the toilet block there and there was also an array of yellow plastic flowers just west of the Ross Bandstand enclosure. She was worried that these were some kind of new display that the Parks department at the council preferred over real ones.
Ella told us : “They reminded me of the light bulbs in St Andrew Square that year while the ground recovered. My husband (who is a gardener) reminded me that the grass would not grow under these plastic flower beds because they block out the light.”
But we can now reveal the real reason for plastic flowers. They are being assembled for Diwali which takes place at the end of this week. It all starts on Wednesday. Read more about Diwali here.
