The Scottish Chamber Orchestra offers free concerts this week for local schools with Scotland’s foremost composer Sir James MacMillan.
The SCO Masterworks programme is aimed at senior pupils across Scotland and allows them to experience a live orchestra up close. They learned about listening, composing and improvising in workshops led by SCO musicians.
Over the last three years the SCO has been aiming to reach secondary schools in every one of Scotland’s 32 council areas. This provides a unique opportunity for students to engage with the orchestra and brings their SQA Curriculum for Excellence to life.
The theme for the 2019 Masterworks programme is James MacMillan’s orchestral work Tryst and there are three free concerts this week in Scotland, the first of which is tomorrow 17 September 2019 at the Queen’s Hall. The other concerts take place in Aberdeen and Kilmarnock later in the week.
The concerts will feature a full performance by the SCO of MacMillan’s work conducted by the composer himself, and will be introduced from the stage by expert presenter Rachel Leach who will explore the music’s themes and compositional techniques.
