Interest is encouraging in major angling events in the East of Scotland later this year.

Pegs are filling fast for the Bass Rock Sea Angling League charity open pegged match, which incorporates Scottish Federation of Sea Anglers (SFSA) points, and Iain Reid’s Memorial.

And Mike and Chris’ Winter Heaviest Cod League, incorporating five sweepstakes on Saturday nights in darkness from November into February, has now been confirmed.

The Bass Rock event is at Ravensheuch Beach (postcode EH42 1XP) and 80 pegs are available on a pre-booking basis only.

The date is Sunday, October 6 with entry of adults £20 and juniors £5 and £3 from every entry is donated to the North Berwick Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Registration is from 08.00 to 09.00 with fishing from 10.00 to 15.00 and there are prizes for the first, second and third longest measure overall and the longest fish overall and a first in each of the four zones.

Meanwhile, Iain Reid’s two-day Memorial Match on Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10, is proving popular.

Registration is at the Caravan Site at Leven Promenade Car Park and it is a measure and return event counting for PENN Sea League points.

Entry is £30 and fishing times are from 12.30pm to 4.30pm (registration 11.30am) and contact David Dobbie on 07940 111729 or Alan Combe on 07872 899791.

The first date for Mike and Chris’ Winter Heaviest Cod League is Saturday, 16 November (16.00 to 21.00, registration 14.30 to 15.00)

The remaining dates are Saturday, November 30 (14.30-19.30, registration 13.00-13.30), Saturday, December 14 (16.30-21.30, registration 15.00-15.30), Saturday, January 13 (16.00-21.00, registration 14.30-15.00) and Saturday, February 8 (15.00-20.00, registration 13.30-14.00).

All registration is at the Victoria Car Park and the fishing area is Carnoustie to Ferryden Lighthouse.

League entry is £10 payable on or prior to any event and anglers can join at the first or fifth match and anytime in between.

There is one prize per angler and of the £15 entry fee £5 goes to the heaviest fish.

Weigh in is back at Victoria car park closing one hour after the match is finished. You must be in the queue by then.

SFSA Rules apply including minimum landing size limits, 5 yard rule, 1 rod and 3 hooks maximum.

A car check may be requested and any suspicion of cheating may result in disqualification.
