The ten-month old baby who was rushed to the Sick Kids on Tuesday afternoon has sadly died.
The nursery in Corstorphine was open this morning but closed after news of the child’s death was made public. The child is understood to have choked on food, which may have been fruit.
One parent told The Edinburgh Reporter today that they have had little news from the nursery other than being told to come and collect their baby earlier as the nursery would close this afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Bright Horizons Nursery in Corstorphine said: “We are devastated by this news. Our thoughts are with the family at this time.
“Obviously we are co-operating fully with the authorities. The safety and wellbeing of the children in our care is our absolute priority.
“The nursery will be closed whilst we support our staff and families. In the meantime we have arranged for our families to be offered alternative care at neighbouring nurseries.”
Police answered our query yesterday morning by saying that they had been called to the nursery after a boy became unwell.
The nursery is situated at the David Lloyd Centre, but is run independently of the sports centre. Children are being looked after at other branches of the childcare company where possible.
