Edinburgh International Festival Morning Recitals 3 – 24 August 2019

Henning Wehn 7.00pm (1-4, 8-11, 15-18, 22-25) Henning is a stalwart of Live At the Apollo and Have I Got News For You. He is the German Comedy Ambassador and you must not miss this show.

7 August 8.00pm Phamie Gow & Phriends is billed as classical Celtic and African/Jazz Twist. She is one of the most gifted and versatile composer-performers who has played in many cities around the world including New York’s Carnegie Hall. One night only.

12 August 8.00pm The Singing Sixties: Featuring Ian McCalman and Barbara Dickson. Possibly this will be beyond your own memory but 40 Scottish folk stars remember singing in Sandy Bell’s and will be performing the same songs they sang then.

13 August 8.00pm Scottish Jazz & Beyond (Parts 1/2/3) Graeme Stephen’s The River, The Fergus McCreadie Trio and Tom Bancroft’s In Common. Jazz and Blues. Simple.

14 and 21 August 8.00pm Blazin’ Fiddles with Emily Smith. A special Fringe night with the Scots Singer of the Year. She has now released seven solo albums.

19 August 9.00pm Blue Rose Code: This is Caledonian Soul. We have said before that The Queen’s Hall has some of the best gigs. Well that is never more true than tonight. Ross Wilson who is BRC will be helped out on stage by a 14-piece band and some special guests – oh like Julie Fowlis….

Anaïs Mitchell

20 August 8.00pm Anais Mitchell from Vermont is steeped in narrative folksong, poetry and balladry. She is the writer behind the simply magnificent and prophetic Hadestown. The musical was staged at the National Theatre in London before it transferred to Broadway to win no fewer than 8 Tony Awards. If you are headed for New York it has to be on your list. Mitchell is an award winning singer who has headlined all over the world.
