Top Scot singer Lewis Capaldi teamed up with Coulters to sign their sponsored Oor Wullie sculpture for the Oor Wullie’s Big Bucket Trail at Edinburgh’s Assai Records in Grindlay Street.
The ‘Aff Yir Rocker’ sculpture creative was designed by local Edinburgh artist Wendy Helliwell. It recognises Scottish music and the importance of recycling. Wendy collected clothes previously belonging to Scottish artists including The Skids, Fish, Midge Ure and The Wendys and her design incorporates their clothing and signatures.
Lewis’s signature is the latest to be added to the sculpture, sponsored by Coulters, a residential estate agency and conveyancing firm based in the capital.
Ken Ireland, CEO of Coulters, said: “We are very excited to be involved with the Oor Wullie Big Bucket Trail, and absolutely delighted to unveil the Coulters’ Sponsored Statue with a final signature from Lewis Capaldi being added to those of Fish, Midge Ure and many other Scottish Pop legends. The Coulters statue has been created by upcoming local Edinburgh artist Wendy Helliwell and incorporates several genuine pieces of Scottish Pop Memorabilia – in her own unique collage form.
“Oor Wullie himself is delighted with his new dungarees and will be on display for selfies in Waverley Station soon – worth a visit on his own however the added Coulters offers we are still to finalise will add even more to the experience. The Big Bucket Trail is being rolled out in key cities in Scotland in aid of amongst others Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity. The work this charity does in helping to better the lives of kids and young people in hospitals is quite frankly amazing and we jumped at the chance to get involved. With the – soon to be old Sick Kids building on the doorstep of our Marchmont office, and most of our staff having benefitted from the service at some point, it’s a charity very close to our hearts.”
The Oor Wullie Big Bucket Trail runs from 17 June 2019 until August 30. Oor Wullie statues are being placed in five host cities – Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness.
