Dog owners across Edinburgh and the Lothians are invited to join a sponsored walk uniting thousands of paws across six countries next month.

The Agria Dog Walk 2019 will take place on 25 May 2019 in Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Paris and several locations in the UK, from Edinburgh to Devon, to raise money for local animal rescue centres, with Agria Pet Insurance donating £5 for every dog walked.

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is hosting Scotland’s only event, and all money raised will go to helping rescue, reunite and rehome lost, stray and abandoned dogs and cats, and providing them with food, shelter and vital veterinary care while they await their forever home.

The Dog Walk also aims to highlight the positive physical and mental benefits dogs and their owners have on each another — from tackling dog and human obesity, to the significant mental health benefits gained by exercising with your four legged-friend.

Gillian Graham, Fundraising Manager at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home said:“We are so thankful to our insurance partners, Agria for choosing to host this event at the Home and support our work. The Agria Dog Walk has already been hugely successful in five other European cities and we are honoured they picked Edinburgh as their chosen location for this exciting event in the UK.

“The day starts with a seaside stroll from Seafield, along Portobello Prom, before looping back to the Home, where dogs and their humans can enjoy an afternoon of entertainment, food and competitions, while supporting animals in need. We encourage everyone (and their dogs!) to get involved”

Simon Wheeler, Managing Director, Agria Pet Insurance, said :”We’re thrilled that Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is joining walks across Europe to take part in the Agria Dog Walk. Every single dog that takes part in the Edinburgh walk will generate a donation for Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, while walks in other cities, including Paris, Stockholm and Oslo, will simultaneously be raising money for their local rescues.

“Agria Pet Insurance has supported Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home for a number of years and we’ve always been struck by the outstanding care they give and the difference they make to the lives of so many animals and the people who adopt them.

“We know the dogs (and their owners!) of Edinburgh and beyond will get behind Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home to walk together and raise as much money as possible on what’s set to be a really fun family day out!”
