Notting Hill

One of the most popular rom-coms of all time, Notting Hill, is coming to Vue Edinburgh Omni and to Vue Edinburgh Ocean Terminal for a one-off screening this Valentine’s Day.

The classic film starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant turns twenty in 2019.

William Thacker (Hugh Grant) is the owner of a London book shop, whose humdrum existence is thrown into romantic turmoil when Hollywood star Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) appears in his shop. A chance encounter soon blossoms into a full blown love affair.

Johnny Carr, Alternative Content Manager at Vue UK and Ireland, said: “Notting Hill was one of the highest grossing films of 1999 and this 20th anniversary screening is sure to bring a wave of nostalgia to anyone who was around for the original, and introduce a new romantic comedy favourite to those who weren’t.”

Notting Hill will be screened in Vue Edinburgh Omni and Vue Edinburgh Ocean Terminal at 7pm on Thursday 14 February. Back row tickets (amongst others) can be booked at www.myvue.com

A little wine tourism to Lavaux in Switzerland

This might be a little bit of a delayed Valentine’s trip….. The hidden gem of Lavaux is dubbed ‘the Wine Route of Switzerland’ and is famed locally for its light and crisp white wines. The steeply sloped vineyards are in a UNESCO listed area that offers remarkable views of the Alps and Lake Geneva. Wine holidays here can easily be incorporated into ski trips or weekend breaks due to the range of local wineries, train lines and ski slopes.  (Direct return flights from Edinburgh – Geneva starting from: £68.99) according to Opodo who advise that for those who dream of wandering through vineyards with the grapes and vines in full bloom, the summer months (June/July) are the best time to visit. This means you should plan your trip in April to get the best deals

Alternatively, if you want to soak in the sights and sounds of the grape harvest, you’ll need to travel in September or October. Plan your trip in July.
