Murrayfield under-20 in action

Murrayfield’s under-20 side have been warned that a repeat of indiscipline could cost them dear when the play a strong Dundee side at Murrayfield on Sunday (5.30pm).

They let slip a 5-3 lead to go down 8-6 in their opening league game at Solway last weekend.

The Murrayfield squad, which included two rookie players, started well when captain Dylan Laidlaw broke the deadlock after good work from defenceman Ethan Reid.

Solway levelled eight seconds later but Reid powered forward after receiving a pass from Archie Holmes to make the score 2-1 in Murrayfield’s favour.

Lewis Young then played a pass to Reid who carried the puck all the way along the ice before slotting home for 3-1,

Murrayfield were in control and the score stayed the same for the rest of the first period.

Solway opened the second session on the attack but they were denied by Murrayfield netminder Andrew Wright who was later named his side’s Man of the Match.

They did break through with two goals to level at 3-3, but Murrayfield were awarded a power play and slick passing allowed rookie Archie Holmes to fire home his first under-20 goal to edge the visitors ahead 4-3.

Into the third period and Patriks Grigors fired in a shot which the Solway netminder saved but Ross Borwick pounced on the rebound to make the scoreline 5-3.

Murrayfield indiscipline opened the door for Solway to score three quick to lead 6-5 but Murrayfield refused to buckle and scored through Cain Paterson after a sweet pass from Laidlaw to level at 6-6.

However, the penalties kept coming and Murrayfield lost their shape, allowing Solway to win 8-6.
