Edinburgh Open Workshop is inviting families to get creative this Halloween with a free community making session using scraps, leftover materials and old costumes.
Scrappy Halloween Fun will take place at Edinburgh Open Workshop in Leith on Saturday 24 October, from 10am–1pm, giving children and adults the chance to make their own costumes and decorations while finding creative ways to reuse materials that might otherwise go to waste.
There will be plenty of ideas to try, from simple ghost costumes made from old bedsheets to bat wings, cat ears, bunting, badges and reusable Halloween table decorations. Visitors will also be able to experiment with the workshop’s knitting machine to create knitted ladders and spiderwebs.

Materials will be provided, although participants making cat ears or similar accessories are encouraged to bring along a headband if they have one. People are also welcome to bring old costumes or materials from home and give them a new lease of life.
No previous making or sewing experience is needed, and the session is suitable for all ages.
The event is part of Edinburgh Open Workshop’s programme of community activities and creative courses, encouraging more people to discover making, repair and reuse.
Scrappy Halloween Fun is free to attend, but advance booking is required.
