Responding to growing demand from members and course participants, Edinburgh Open Workshop (EOW) is launching its biggest-ever programme of sewing and textiles workshops.
The award-winning makerspace has introduced a diverse selection of new classes, giving beginners and experienced makers alike the chance to build practical skills, explore new techniques and discover fresh creative possibilities.
Highlights include machine knitting, garment construction, Pojagi inspired textile art, scrap-busting soft toy classes and innovative laser cut-and-sew workshops, showcasing EOW’s commitment to evolving its courses in line with the interests of Edinburgh’s creative community.
Alongside the expanded textiles programme, EOW is also introducing a new four-week laser cutting course, offering participants a more in-depth introduction to digital design and fabrication. New power tools workshops are also planned for later in the season.
The new courses sit alongside EOW’s established programme of woodworking, welding, furniture making, DIY and fabrication classes, giving people even more opportunities to learn practical skills in a welcoming, community-focused environment.
“At Edinburgh Open Workshop, our courses evolve alongside our community and ever-growing range of Pay-As-You-Go facilities. Each course is designed to develop new hands-on skills, take home a piece of work, gain professional advice and build confidence in using tools and equipment to enable participants to go on to access our facilities independently as a member,” said Jen Stewart, Education Officer at Edinburgh Open Workshop.
All workshops are taught by experienced professional makers, many of whom are resident makers or PAYG members at Edinburgh Open Workshop, providing participants with expert tuition in a supportive and inspiring environment.
The new courses are now available to book, with workshops running from late August to December.
