Organisers of the popular Hailes Quarry Junior Parkrun have confirmed that the event will continue as normal during the Festive period.
A healthy field of juniors aged from four to 14 took part in the latest run in mild conditions on Sunday.
And the first home, Ensay T, clocked an impressive time of 8min 16sec, one second outside a personal best, for the measured 2k event around the former quarry near Wester Hailes.
Angus McClelland was next in 8min 48sec and Finn McClelland third on 9min 06sec. The rest of the top ten were: 4, Mateo Aguilar Acosta 9min 50sec; 5, Vincent Calbrese 10min 11sec; 6, Finlay Hughes 10min 23sec; 7, Arran Forrest 10min 33sec; 8, Emilie Ferguson 10min 39sec; 9, Ezra T, 11min 04sec; 10, Aidan Coyle, 11min 07sec.
Alan Gordon, the event director, confirmed that the course record is shared between Ben Silver and Luciana Starkey who both recorded times of 7min 49sec on separate occasions.
He added: “Level pegging between the boys and girls which is fantastic to see.”
So far, since its inception, there have been 14 events, with 362 finishers and 95 volunteers helping out with the average finish time of 14min 31sec.
Volunteers will be in place for runs throughout December and into January with a 9.30am start, weather permitting, of course.
The event, which started in September, is free and entrants meet at the children’s play park behind the police station.
The course as two small inclines but is run mainly on tarmac around the extensive park which is behind Longstone Bus Garage and can be easily accessed from the Union Canal.
