Twenty-four hours is a long time in ice hockey. On Saturday, Fife Flyers blunted Sheffield Steelers 7-4 at The Fife Ice Arena but on Sunday then skidded to to a 7-3 defeat at Elite League pace-setters, Nottingham Panthers, after being outshot 47-31.
It did not take the Midlands club long to open their account, Nolan Volcan netting after 5min 36sec, but the Kirkcaldy club levelled on 13min 05sec on the power play. Johan Porsberger was set up by Anton Karlsson and Keaton Jameson with Zsombor Garat in the sin big for delaying the game.
However, Panthers struck after 18min 20sec, Garat counting for 2-1.
Fife upped their game in the second and levelled 2min 28sec into the session thanks to Giordano Finoro who was set up by former National Hockey League player, Milan Lucic.
But that was as good as it gets for the Fife club who were then hit with five straight goals.
Panthers converted on the power play with David Booth in the sin bin, Ross Armour counting on 31min 30sec, then Jordan Kelsall scored on 34min 44sec for 4-2.
Nottingham converted No 5 after 45min 56sec, Armour doing the damage and Jacob Stridsberg made it 6-2 at 47min on the power play.
It became 7-2 on 55min 18sec when Matthew Marcinew netted but Ethan Somoza had the final say with a consolation 43 seconds from time. Jameson had the assist.
