Michael Courts, Fife Flyers’ interim head coach, has praised the fans for sticking with the club despite a difficult season.
Last weekend, the Kirkcaldy club suffered back to back defeats but Courts said: “The last couple of seasons have been difficult for them (the fans) but, regardless of that, they come, they are loud and proud.
“The fans are amazing. I just wish we could have had more to give them throughout the year.”
He added: “We have gone so close in games, but it has gone the other way. I just hope they (the fans) can see the input from the boys. It has just been one of those seasons.”
The playcaller does not believe Sunday’s scoreline reflected the game against Manchester Storm after the English side left Kirkcaldy with a 4-0 victory despite being outshot 36-34 by Flyers who lost 7-3 at Coventry Blaze on Saturday.
Courts said: “I feel we played the right way for big parts of that game. In fact, I am pretty pleased with the way the bulk of that went.”
Flyers have now gone five games without a victory but Courts told Flyers TV: “This team has got heart. We competed for a full 60 minutes (against Manchester) and they (the players) are unwilling to quit in a game or a situation. We competed regardless of the scoreline.”
British forward Mason Alderson and Swedish forward Johan Porsbeger are written off for the remainder of the season because of injury and Kirkcaldy-born Courts admitted: “It is tough when you are so thin on the ground.”
There are four fixtures remaining of a troubled season, a trip to Glasgow Clan on Friday (7.30pm) followed by a home joust v Coventry on Saturday (19.00) followed by back-to-back games against arch rivals, Dundee Stars.
The first fixture is at home to the Tayside team on Saturday, April 4 (19.00) and the return is at the Dundee Ice Arena on Sunday, April 5 (5pm). Both teams cannot qualify for the end-of-season play-offs.
