Fife Flyers were burned by Guildford Flames at The Fife Ice Arena, denting their Elite League, play-off hopes.
The sides were level at 1-1 going into the last session but five goals hit the Flyers rigging between 41min 49sec and 55min 32sec.
The home side’s consolation goal in the 6-1 reverse came from Johan Porsberger after 39min 55sec to tie the scores at 1-1, Milan Lucic and Giordano Finoro assisting.
A bad night at the office then for coach Jamie Russell whose men were outshot 42-30.
Jake Coughler, who scored a double for Flames, said: “It was a huge win for us.” Indeed. It was a huge blow for Fife and home fans in a crowd of 1,783.
The Kirkcaldy club slip back into bottom spot with Dundee move above them into ninth with Glasgow Clan occupying the eighth and final play-off spot. They are 14 points ahead of Dundee and 15 in front of Fife.
Making matters worse, basement rivals, Dundee Stars, travelled to former league leaders, Nottingham Panthers, and won 4-3, Drydn Dow scoring the game-winner at 57min 19sec.
Elsewhere, Manchester Storm edged Sheffield Steelers 4-0 in a shootout.
On Sunday, Fife visit Sheffield (16.00), Cardiff host Nottingham, Belfast entertain Glasgow and Coventry are at home to Manchester.
