Scotland will field two teams in the Celtic Cup in Kiltimagh, Co Mayo, in the Republic of Ireland on Saturday and Sunday.

The squad, which includes Rosalind Cassidy, a member of the Edinburgh and Lothians Coarse Angling Club, travel on Wednesday heading for Derryhick Lough which has never been match fished.

Dunfermline-based Gus Brindle, the team manager, said there is no information available, other than the water contains mainly roach and perch with the odd tench.

Scotland practice on Thursday and Friday when they will sort out bait, groundbait and tactics and Brindle said: “Scotland will be fielding two teams, Wales one team and hosts Ireland, three teams.

“The Celtic Cup is an international development event which is fishing to full FIPSeD International rules. It is designed to provide opportunity for the team managers of the three Celtic nations to have a look at emerging talent for potential selection to squads for either European or World Championships, and also to give more anglers a chance to represent their country at international level.

“Each four-man team is therefore only allowed to contain two individuals who have represented their nation at World or European level in the past two years.”
