The Parsons Peebles Monarchs have signed former Workington rider Matt Williamson for their 2018 SGB Championship campaign.

Williamson revealed recently that he did not have a club for next season.

He said “Obviously, it’s been quite a nervous winter waiting for the phone to ring and, when it finally did and it was Edinburgh, I was absolutely ecstatic.

“Edinburgh are one of the best clubs in the league and they are a winning team and, as a rider, you want to be part of that.”

He added “I’ve had two fantastic seasons at Workington and improved so much there, but I’m looking forward to a new challenge.”

The newcomer knows Monarchs’ star Ricky Wells extremely well and he doesn’t think it will be long before he’s dialled in at Armadale.

Williamson said: “I got nine points for Workington there at the start of last season.”

The signing is subject to BSPA approval and Williamson will start on a 4.85 points average and he joins American racer Ricky Wells, German-born brothers Erik and Mark Riss, Josh Pickering (Australia) and Swedish racer Joel Andersson.
