For Lowland League side Civil Service Strollers, Saturday 23rd December 2017 will be a big day. For not only will the Edinburgh club face Cumbernauld Colts in an important game they will be collecting food donations for a local foodbank with all food donated being given to the Muirhouse Community Shop foodbank.

Everyone at the football club is aware of the issues that face some people in the north of Edinburgh and the club has pledged to do their bit to help the community. The foodbank is currently in particular need of the following items:

Tinned Vegetables
UHT Milk
Sugar
Coffee / Tea
Pasta / Rice
Tinned Fruit

Strollers’ community engagement officer, Karen Mitchell, said: “We are delighted to be helping the local foodbank. We know that people living in the area don’t always have enough food so that’s why we have decided to have the collection.

“Everyone in our club from our youth section right the way through to our first team are right behind this initiative and we hope we get lots of food donated.”

Robert Pearson, chairperson of TRIM, who run the Community Shop said: “We are grateful to everyone at Civil Service Strollers for their support in donating to our foodbank.

“We get inundated with requests for food, especially over the Christmas and New Year period so all the food that is donated will go to people within a matter of days.

“The shop may be closed over festive period, but our Community shop phone and Facebook page will be manned daily between 9am and 6pm to assist those in need of food. People can also call us on 07914942026.

“Once again thanks to the Strollers for organising this.”

Anyone wishing to help will be able to donate at the gate at Civil Service Strollers’ game on 23rd December which has a 2.00pm kick-off.
