The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) is looking into the circumstances following the death of a 25-year-old man whose body was recovered from the harbour in Musselburgh on Friday, October 13.

Officers were in contact with the man prior to his death and the case has been referred to the police ‘watchdog’ by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) who will report in due course.

A Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) spokeswoman said: “PIRC is carrying out an investigation following the death of a 25-year-old man whose body was recovered from the harbour in Musselburgh on Friday, October 13.

 

“The investigation will focus on police contact with the man in the days prior to his death.

“The matters have been referred to the PIRC by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and a report on the commissioner’s findings will be submitted to the COPFS in due course.”
