Stephen Tiffney will only take a short time off training before getting back to work with his coach Terry McCormack.

The Newtongrange-based featherweight wants to quickly build on Friday’s points win over highly-rated Coventry fighter Troy James.

And the 29-year-old is determined to make up for lost time having shown real class in disposing of the Englishman.

Tiffney controlled the ten-round bout at noisy Meadowbank, slipping punches and picking his own, landing despite quicksilver James bobbing and weaving.

The Midlands boxer, who has been in with the best, used his feet to dance around the ring as Tiffney’s noisy fans roared him on.

But Tiffney cooly disposed of his man. At no time did the Scot seem flustered or concerned and, despite Troy’s impressive record, the Midlothian man always felt confident of claiming the victory.

He’s now won eight fights, three inside the distance, and he moves upwards and onwards and Tiffney said: “I predicted that I was going to stop him.

“I believed I could do that, but he’s a tough guy and I take my hat off to him.

“He moves well and when he started moving around it made it more difficult for me. However, I felt I would get to him eventually.

“I like to go forward and I had to watch as he’s a good fighter and he could punch a bit. I didn’t want to take too big a chance and get caught.

“To be honest, and no disrespect, I knew I had the beating of him there and I was winning the rounds.

“I was able to relax and take a breather when I wanted to but I had to watch what I was doing.”

He added: “I’m hoping that win will put me up there and I’m hoping for bigger opponents and I believe I am 100 per cent ready.”
