Scottish Elite Cup: third and fourth place play-off: Edinburgh Capitals 3, Dundee Stars 0; semi-finals: Braehead Clan 4, Edinburgh Capitals 2; Fife Flyers 6, Dundee Stars 2 (all at Murrayfield).
Goals by Mike Cazzola, Sergei Banashkov and Mike D’Orazio secured a third-place finish for Edinburgh Capitals in the inaugural Scottish Elite Cup.
They shutout Dundee Stars 3-0 in the third and fourth place play-off in front of their own Murrayfield fans and the home side dominated most of the game.
Stars had chances but failed to take them.
The sides blanked the first period before Cazzola capitalised on a Dundee defensive error after 26 minutes, Cazzola keeping his cool to slot home one-on-one with Stars’ Fife-born netminder Craig Holland.
Two goals in three minutes settled the issue. Banashkov slotted after another mistake, this time on half-way, after 33 minutes and Mike D’Orazio made sure with a power play strike after 36 minutes following a scramble in front of goal.
Omar Pacha, Stars’ coach, said: “We’re still work in progress but we have to take our chances. Three individual mistakes cost us.”
