Josh Taylor speaking at the recent press conference to launch ticket sales for Saturday’s showdown at Braehead

Lothians-born boxer Josh Taylor is world class according to his trainer Shane McGuigan.

Taylor must now prove that tonight at Braehead when he faces confident Londoner Ohara Davies in his toughest fight to date.

McGuigan has been working his man hard ahead of the fight which he says is a step-up.

However, McGuigan believes that the 200 amateur bouts, an appearance at the Olympic Games and a Commonwealth Games medal prove that Taylor has the skill to move to world level.

He admitted that his man is being fast-tracked in the professional ranks but that is because he is so good.

And McGuigan said it was brave of both Taylor and Ohara to box each other at this stage in their careers.

He added: “Josh is hungry to become a world champion quickly. He did a lot of learning in the amateurs and he has excelled quickly in the professional ranks.”

McGuigan said the styles of the two boxers will clash well but he added: “I see the pedigree and experience lying with Josh Taylor.”
