Pentlands Book Festival takes place in Currie, Juniper Green and Colinton this autumn over a week from 21-27 November 2016.

”The Moira Monologues”– Alan Bissett: The opening event, in which Alan Bissett performs his hit one-man (or rather, one-woman) show in which he portrays Moira Bell, a Falkirk woman who describes her life in a series of entertaining yet thoughtful monologues exposing the pitfalls of society. “Beyond the Border: Sir Walter Scott’s Minstrelsy in Story and Song”– Margaret Bennett- You are invited to join Margaret Bennett as she examines the significance of Sir Walter Scott’s work and legacy, not through dry academia but with songs, stories and hilarity – and a wine tasting. An Evening With Kathleen Jamie – Award-winning author and poet Kathleen Jamie will read and discuss her writing at the library in the town she grew up in. She is the winner of both the Costa Poetry Prize (for The Overhaul, 2012) and the Scottish Book of the Year Award (for The Tree House, 2014). Currie Library, Monday 21 November 2016, 6.30pm
Liz Beevers ”James Thomson, Currie’s Weaver Poet” – Historian Liz Beevers leads a guided tour around Currie and surrounding areas which directly influenced the work of poet James Thomson (1763-1832). Starting from the Currie Library, visitors will ride in a minibus up to Thomson’s house and explore several of the places mentioned in his poems. Currie Library, Saturday 19 November 2016 10.30pm.
”Treasures From the National Archives”– Alison Lindsay- Lindsay recently celebrated her silver anniversary as an archivist. She has a remarkable knowledge of the National Records of Scotland and is thrilled to have the chance to share her knowledge with interested audiences.
