An all female cast will bring the Queens of Syria to the Assembly Roxy on 19 and 20 July.
This is part of a three week UK tour but the only opportunity to see the production in Scotland.
The play is a narrative of ferocious war and bitter exile with their narrative woven in with the ancient Greek text. The adaptation of Euripides’ great anti-war tragedy was first staged in Amman in 2013 and was the subject of an award-winning documentary.
Director Zoe Lafferty said: “I feel privileged to work on this production that directly voices the powerful story from women that have survived war and are currently refugees. This piece encompasses the many challenges they have faced whilst being a celebration of life, a declaration of hope and an exploration of the future.”
William Burdett-Coutts for Assembly Theatre said “This is a hugely important and relevant piece of theatre that audiences will find fascinating. We’re delighted to bring Queens of Syria to the Assembly Roxy for the only Scottish date.”
