Tomorrow evening a TEDx event will be taking place at St Oswald’s Hall, Boroughmuir High School in Bruntsfield. And you still have time to book a place.
David Dempster headteacher of Boroughmuir High School told us how excited he is about this: “TEDx is an international global brand where people give inspirational talks to the wider community. For us to be involved in this is a fabulous thing. There have not been many in Scotland but one of our parents, Theo Priestley works in technology and knows about these things. He came to us and explained that TED had a local brand TEDx.
“This is smaller and more focussed on individual communities. Theo offered to organise it for us. Now an offer like that is one that a headteacher cannot say no to.
“It has been some time in planning but now it is happening tomorrow evening with eight speakers who are going to speak to our parents, teachers, pupils and the wider public who are also welcome.
“We would like as many people from the local community as possible to come along. It is a really great opportunity for the school and community to put on a special show.

“After the main event nine pupils will take part in an IGNITE event when they get the opportunity to speak for only five minutes with fifteen powerpoint slides.
“It is very rigorously timed, and our nine pupils are giving talks on a range of subjects from fairytales to drumming to the numbers 2 and 73.
“TEDx is such a great model for inspirational speaking and the IGNITE platform has developed from that.
“This has been inspirational for the school community. We don’t think any other school in this part of the world has organised such an event. If it works then we will be keen to repeat it, and although it does take a lot of organisation we are sure it will be worth it.”
